We Make Better Decisions with The Lights On

We are tought the 4 Rules of Gun Safety

  1. Always Keep Firearm Pointed in a Safe direction
  2. Treat All Guns as Though They are Loaded
  3. Keep Your Finger Off the Trigger until You are Ready to Shoot
  4. Always Be Sure of Your Target and What’s Beyond It

Personal experience revealed a dilemma built in to these rules: What happens when the lights are off? How can they be followed in the home at night while still allowing an effective response to a potential or actual threat?

There are range of excellent weapon mounted light systems on the market which should absolutely be integrated into our home defense systems; however, they have drawbacks. They provide excellent pinpoint illumination but area illumination is often traded off in favor of longer range. Most handgun mounted lights position the controls in close proximity to the trigger - usually just ahead of the trigger guard. When confronted with an emergency, just woken from sleep, in a dark home, these charactaristics can make it difficult to adhere to rules 1, 3 and 4. One must point their pistol at an area in order to identify a potential target and a finger must push a button or throw a switch less than an inch from the trigger. Most "home invasions" in the United States are probably teenagers sneaking in after curfew, a spouse who has misplaced their keys, or a household pet feuding with a houseplant. We've created a solution which allows safe response to those situations, without reducing tactical efficiency in the event of a real threat.
